How much margin do intraday (MIS) orders need?

Margin depends on the stock’s risk, as set by exchange and SEBI rules (VaR + ELM). Intraday orders need at least 20% of the order value as margin, so most liquid stocks get up to 5x leverage. Some stocks need more margin, and some are not allowed for MIS. The order panel shows the leverage for the stock (for example, Intraday: 5X) and the exact margin for your quantity under Buy and Sell, before you place.
