EPFO Credits 8.25% Interest for FY26: How to Check If Your PF Balance Is Updated
EPFO has credited 8.25% interest for FY2025-26 to about 34 crore accounts. Here is how to check a PF balance in four ways.
The EPFO has credited 8.25% annual interest for FY2025-26 into member accounts, with entries showing from 15 July 2026. About ₹1.44 lakh crore is going to nearly 34 crore accounts. Members can check their PF balance in four ways: the EPFO passbook portal, the UMANG app, an SMS to 7738299899, or a missed call to 9966044425. If the interest is not showing yet, it is best to wait a few days, as EPFO updates accounts in phases.
There is good news sitting in most provident fund accounts. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has credited the annual EPF interest for FY2025-26 at 8.25%. Many members have reported seeing the entry in their passbooks from 15 July 2026. Here is how to check if a PF balance has been updated and what to do if it has not.
The headline numbers
EPFO processed the FY26 interest at 8.25%. The credit covers roughly 34 crore member accounts. Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the total interest is over ₹1.44 lakh crore across all accounts. It was auto-processed first, then verified by field staff before being credited.
This year the money landed early. In earlier years, members often got the interest around September or October, and sometimes as late as November. A new centralised IT system helped EPFO finish the job sooner this time, part of its wider digital overhaul.
How the EPF rate has moved
The 8.25% rate is no surprise. The government has held it steady for three years in a row. Here is how the rate has moved over recent years.
| Financial year | EPF interest rate |
|---|---|
| FY26 | 8.25% |
| FY25 | 8.25% |
| FY24 | 8.25% |
| FY23 | 8.15% |
| FY22 | 8.10% |
| FY21 | 8.50% |
The FY22 rate of 8.10% was the lowest since 1977-78. That is the year EPF interest was first fixed, at 8%. Against that backdrop, 8.25% is a healthy, stable return. That matters for a government-backed retirement product, especially when fixed deposit rates keep shifting.

How to check EPF interest online
The easiest way is the EPFO passbook portal. It takes only a few steps.
- Visit the official EPFO passbook website.
- Log in with the Universal Account Number (UAN), password and the captcha shown on screen.
- Select the Member ID linked to the current or previous employer.
- View the passbook. It shows the employee share, the employer share and the interest credited.
- Look for the latest entry marked as FY2025-26 interest.
The UAN must be active and linked with the registered mobile number for this to work.
Other quick ways to check
Members who prefer their phone have three more options. The UAN must be active for all of them.
- UMANG app: open the app, go to EPFO services, and select View Passbook. Log in with the UAN and the OTP sent to the registered mobile number.
- SMS: send "EPFOHO UAN ENG" to 7738299899 from the registered mobile number. Swap ENG for another code, such as HIN for Hindi or TAM for Tamil, to get the reply in that language.
- Missed call: give a missed call to 9966044425 from the registered mobile number. This works only if the UAN is linked with Aadhaar, PAN or a bank account.
| Method | What is needed | What it gives |
|---|---|---|
| EPFO passbook portal | UAN, password, captcha | Full passbook with all transactions |
| UMANG app | UAN linked to app, OTP | Balance and latest passbook entries |
| SMS | Active UAN, registered mobile | Balance and contribution details |
| Missed call | UAN linked to Aadhaar, PAN or bank | Balance details via SMS |
What if the interest is not showing?
There is no need to panic. EPFO updates interest in phases. So it can take a few days before every account reflects the credit. The best move is to check again after a few days.
If it still does not show once the wider update is done, there are options. A member can raise a grievance on the EPFiGMS portal. Or reach out to the employer or the nearest EPFO office for help.
Who is eligible
Every EPF member with an active account and eligible contributions during FY2025-26 gets interest at the declared rate. The interest is worked out on the monthly running balance. It is credited once a year, only after the government formally notifies the rate. That is why there is often a gap between the rate being announced and the credit landing in the passbook.
With crores of members affected and a large pool of money moving each year, this is a good moment to log in and confirm the interest has landed. It is also a fair time to review overall EPF contributions and the retirement corpus on track, rather than just glancing at the number.
