FAQs

What is open interest in options?
Open interest (OI) is the number of option contracts that are open at a strike and not yet closed or settled. It rises when a buyer and a seller open a new position, and falls when an existing position is closed or expires.
How is open interest different from volume?
Volume counts every contract traded during the session and resets to zero each day. Open interest counts only the contracts still open, and carries over from one session to the next. A strike can trade heavily while its open interest barely moves, if traders are mostly closing positions they already hold.
Why does open interest matter to option traders?
Open interest shows where positions are concentrated. Strikes with large open interest are where many traders have money at stake, so those levels often matter as the underlying approaches them. High open interest also usually means a strike is liquid and easier to trade.
How do you find support and resistance from open interest?
Find the strike below the current price with the highest Put open interest: that is OI support. Find the strike above the current price with the highest Call open interest: that is OI resistance. Both levels move during the session as positions are opened and closed.
Which instruments can you track open interest for on Sahi?
