Placing Orders on Exchanges (23)

How does Sahi handle F&O positions that exceed the exchange freeze limit?

Exchanges (NSE/BSE) set a maximum order quantity per order, called the Freeze Quantity — for each F&O contract. Orders above this limit are not accepted by the exchange as a single order.

When you place an F&O order that exceeds the freeze limit on Sahi, the platform automatically splits the order into multiple smaller orders, each within the freeze limit, and sends them to the exchange simultaneously.

What this means for margin:

  • Margin is calculated on the total position size, not on each individual split order.

  • You must have sufficient margin to cover the entire position before Sahi sends the split orders.

  • If your margin is insufficient for the full position, the entire order, including all splits — will be rejected.

Note: The freeze quantity varies by contract and is set by the exchange. It is not a Sahi-specific limit.
