Quick Summary

Ola Electric is considering a rights issue as it looks to strengthen its capital position amid continued competition in electric two-wheelers. The company is also expanding its dealer network, while its Q1 performance showed sequential recovery but continued losses and pressure on annual revenue growth.

Ola Electric Mobility is in focus after announcing that its board will consider a rights issue of equity shares on September 28, 2026.

The proposed fundraise comes as the electric two-wheeler maker works to rebuild volumes, expand its retail network and reduce cash burn. The company has not yet disclosed the size, pricing or proposed use of the rights issue proceeds. The proposal remains subject to board, regulatory and statutory approvals.

The development follows an earlier fundraising approval of up to ₹1,500 Cr and a ₹780.24 Cr QIP completed in June 2026. At the same time, Ola is facing increasing competition in the electric two-wheeler market, with Greaves Electric Mobility moving ahead of Ola in early September registrations.

Ola Electric Plans Rights Issue to Raise Fresh Capital

On September 23, Ola Electric informed the stock exchanges that its board would meet on September 28 to consider a proposal to raise funds through a rights issue.

The company has not disclosed the amount to be raised, issue price or specific deployment of the proceeds. The proposed route would allow eligible shareholders, including retail, institutional and promoter-group shareholders, to participate, subject to applicable regulations.

The proposed rights issue comes only a few months after Ola Electric raised ₹780.24 Cr through a QIP in June. The company allotted 21.76 Cr shares to qualified institutional buyers at ₹35.86 per share.

The latest fundraising proposal therefore becomes an important development for investors because the company is seeking additional capital while still operating with losses.

Ola Electric Faces Increasing EV Market Share Pressure

Ola Electric's fundraising proposal comes against a challenging competitive backdrop.

Between January 1 and August 24, 2026, Ola sold around 88,910 electric two-wheelers, giving it roughly 7% market share, according to Vahan data cited by Business Standard. The company's market share has fallen considerably from its position in 2024.

The pressure became more visible in September.

Between September 1 and 9, Greaves Electric Mobility recorded 2,645 registrations and a 4.6% market share, moving ahead of Ola Electric's 2,607 registrations and 4.5% share during the same period.

The development is significant because Ola was previously India's largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer. Its declining market share means the company now has to balance volume recovery with profitability and cash management.

Dealer Network Expansion Targets 500+ Outlets

Ola Electric is also changing its retail strategy.

On September 4, 2026, the company opened its first batch of dealer-operated stores across seven states. The move represents a shift away from its earlier predominantly company-owned retail model.

The initial dealer network covers Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Bihar, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Ola plans to expand the network to more than 500 dealerships over the coming quarters.

The company has said the dealer-led model should improve regional reach, product accessibility and customer response.

The strategy could help Ola expand its sales and service footprint without bearing the entire cost of a company-owned network. However, the effectiveness of the model will ultimately depend on whether the additional outlets translate into higher registrations and better after-sales service.

The Q1 numbers therefore show a meaningful sequential recovery, but the business remained loss-making and revenue was still substantially below the year-ago level.

The sharp sequential improvement in Automotive revenue reflects the recovery in vehicle deliveries during the quarter. However, the year-on-year decline highlights the scale of the volume challenge still facing the company.

What Should Investors Watch Next?

The September rights issue proposal is now the immediate focus.

Investors will be watching the September 28 board meeting for the size, pricing and structure of the proposed issue. The outcome will determine how much additional capital Ola intends to raise and potentially how much dilution existing shareholders could face.

The second key factor is market share. Greaves moving ahead of Ola in early September highlights the competitive pressure facing the company.

The dealer-led retail expansion is another important variable. A network exceeding 500 outlets could improve accessibility, but investors will ultimately need to see stronger registrations and better utilisation of the expanded network.

Finally, the company needs to demonstrate that the Q1 sequential recovery can continue without requiring repeated external capital raises.

Final Takeaway

Ola Electric's latest development is its proposed rights issue, with the board scheduled to consider the fundraising on September 28. The move comes as the company faces market-share pressure despite a sequential recovery in Q1 deliveries and revenue.

The dealer-led expansion could support future volumes, but profitability remains weak. Investors should focus on the rights issue terms, September registrations, market share and progress towards lower cash burn.
