Why has Apple Increased Prices?
Apple says the main reason is the sharp rise in DRAM and NAND memory prices, which are used across Macs, iPads and other devices.
According to the company, the rapid expansion of AI data centres has created unprecedented demand for memory and storage chips, pushing component costs higher.
Apple said it had absorbed these higher costs for several months, but existing inventory has now been exhausted, making price increases unavoidable.

What Did Apple Say?
Apple acknowledged that customers won't welcome the higher prices but said the move has become necessary.
The company said it has never seen memory component prices rise this quickly and had protected customers from these increases until now. However, with memory costs continuing to surge, it has started increasing prices for products such as Macs and iPads.
Why are Memory Prices Rising?
The biggest reason is the growing demand for AI infrastructure.
Memory manufacturers are allocating a larger share of production to AI servers and data centres, reducing supply for consumer electronics.
As supply tightens, prices of DRAM and NAND chips have surged, increasing manufacturing costs for laptop, tablet and smartphone makers across the industry.
Have iPhone Prices Increased?
No. Apple has not increased iPhone prices in India or global markets so far.
However, analysts believe that if memory prices remain high, iPhone prices could also rise in the coming months.
Counterpoint says Apple's decision to keep iPhone prices unchanged is because the iPhone contributes more than half of the company's revenue. The analyst added that current pricing may encourage customers planning to upgrade to buy sooner before any future increase.
Have Prices Increased Globally Too?
Yes. Apple has also raised prices in several international markets. In the US:
-
MacBook Air (512GB): $1,099 → $1,299
-
MacBook Pro (1TB): $1,699 → $1,999
-
iPad Air (128GB): $599 → $749
-
Prices of Apple TV and HomePod models have also been increased.

Final Words
Apple's latest price hike reflects a broader shift in the technology industry rather than a company-specific decision. As AI data centres drive record demand for memory chips, manufacturers are facing higher production costs.
While Macs, iPads and smart home devices have already become more expensive, iPhone prices remain unchanged for now. However, if memory costs continue to rise, analysts believe smartphones could be the next category to see higher prices.
